The Bathurst U3A

‘SENIORS LEARNING TOGETHER’

Bathurst is one of Australia’s fastest-growing  modern  regional cities just two and a half hours drive west  from Sydney.  It is accessible  by plane, train and automobile.  Located on the banks of the Macquarie River, Bathurst was proclaimed a town in 1815, then with the discovery of gold, it experienced rapid growth in the 1850’s and ’60’s.  Bathurst and its surrounding areas saw much of the beginnings of Australian colonial settlement being Australia’s first inland settlement, with Bathurst being Australia’s oldest inland city.

In Bathurst you will find excellent residential housing, accommodation, restaurants and  business and shopping centres that cater for all your needs, plus the friendly warmth of country proprietors and competitive pricing. Many Sydney metropolitan retirees are taking a tree change west, and and once here are joining Bathurst U3A. In 2022 we have just over 300 enthusiastic members.

Our Newsletter is available on this website, along with an Enrolment Form and our Course Timetable.

The Bathurst U3A

The Bathurst U3A is part of the worldwide University of the Third Age movement which arranges courses in which people over 50 (the 3rd age) can use their leisure time to learn and teach together. You can get a good general picture of U3A philosophy and activities if you look at the  U3A Network Video All U3As are volunteer groups, autonomous from one another, and run by an elected committee of local members.  The Bathurst U3A was established in 1991, and in 2022 we have well over 300 members. You need no formal qualifications to attend or teach a course. There are no examinations or tests.  All tutors give their time and expertise voluntarily. They love their subjects and enjoy sharing their enthusiasm and knowledge with others. Some use their trade, business or professional expertise; others are happy to share a life-long hobby or interest with like minded people. You may participate in as many courses as you wish for an annual fee of $40.00.  All classes are held during the day.  Our four, six-week terms coincide with school terms, leaving you free for the school holidays. If you would like to teach or learn in a friendly, relaxed environment please contact us:
