Welcome to the website of the friendly Bathurst U3A!

COVID-19 safety procedures

Bathurst has been in lockdown since 17:00 on Saturday 14 August. NSW Health advises: “Everyone must stay at home unless they have a reasonable excuse to leave. They also cannot have visitors in their home from outside their household, including family and friends.” So all Bathurst U3A classes except those conducted virtually should be cancelled from the deadline onwards until further notice.

Newsletters. Tell us what you think.

The term 3 newsletter is available for reading here, along with many of our earlier newsletters. Penny, our new Newsletter Editor, would like to hear what you think of them. What would you like to see that’s not there? What would you like to exclude? Please send her an email to let her know your thoughts.

Do your knees hurt?

The University of Melbourne’s Department of Physiotherapy is conducting research into knee osteoarthritis among people of 45 years or more. The Department is looking for volunteers who suffer knee pain. Participants receive two physiotherapy sessions delivered via telehealth, for prescription of a strengthening exercise plan. All treatments are provided to participants with no charge. More information on the study and registration of your interest can be found at www.mappkostudy.com.au or by contacting Penny Campbell at penelope.campbell@unimelb.edu.au.

Take a big Leep forward.

Recent regulations relating to COVID-19 have made it increasingly important for seniors to be able to make effective use of information technology. Leep is a not-for-profit organisation which provides one-on-one learning in the use of various features available through your smartphone or tablet:
– emailing
– texting
– online shopping
– online banking
– sharing of photos and videos.

If you join Leep you’ll be assigned to a volunteer “tech mate”, who, through COVID-safe phone or video chats, will guide you through effective use of your device. In safe and supported areas, tech mates and learners can choose to meet in person at a mutually agreed location.

If you’d like to become a Leep learner, click here, or phone 1300 163 106.
